Brian Justin Crum was 28 years old when he auditioned for America’s Got Talent in 2016.
Before singing, he opened up about his childhood and the bullying he had experienced because of his sexual orientation.
His mother was sitting in the audience.
She had always supported his dream of becoming a singer, even during the moments when Brian struggled to believe in himself.
Then he stepped onto the stage.
For his audition, he chose Queen’s legendary Somebody to Love.
It was an enormous challenge.
But the moment Brian began singing, the nervousness disappeared.
His voice exploded across the theater.
Powerful high notes.
Soulful runs.
Raw emotion.
And a vocal range that immediately grabbed everyone’s attention.
The audience erupted.
The judges looked stunned.
Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel all gave him a confident “Yes.”
But Brian’s journey was far from over.
He continued delivering powerful performances throughout the season, including Creep, In the Air Tonight, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, and Man in the Mirror.
His combination of vocal power and emotional storytelling made him one of the season’s standout performers.
And when the final results were announced, Brian Justin Crum finished fourth overall.
